When Shopping for A Program…
The PMA does not regulate or approve any Pilates Teacher Training/Certification course. This will result in you needing to do your research! Look for PMA Certified Instructors™ who have been teaching for 5 years or more. Ask questions!
Be aware of the following:
- Modular programs that are remarkably brief – you can’t learn ALL of the material in 1 weekend or 1 month
- Back-to-Back programs that go all day, many hours and days in a row. You will not absorb the material; the burn out rate is very high
- How will you make up the material?
- Some other programs insist on 10-15 apprentice hours per week and don’t allow you to go at your own pace.
- Lengthy programs that span weekends and holidays and may disrupt your schedule for an extended period of time
- Programs taught in “Levels” are hard to follow and integrate the material
Beware of hidden fees and policies – add up ALL fees to complete the Program
Please be sure to read the fine print when choosing a course, do the math. Some of them have the following policies:
- Extra testing fees to complete the course
- Required video/book/classes at an extra cost
- A tuition “loan” with an employment contract of 2 years that is binding and may hold up your certificate of completion
- Required practice teaching hour policies within their studio only, where the Studio collects fees from client and pays little or nothing to you
- Some programs require you to take their Cont. Education to maintain “good standing” with them – this may be in addition to the PMA CEC requirements
- An additional Anatomy Course may be required to enter the course at an extra cost
- Weekly workouts at their facility may be required at your cost
- Some studios may charge high rent for you to “rent space” to self-practice or even to observe
PSC Does NOT believe in any of this – you are a professional and deserve to be treated as such. We are straightforward, clear and dedicated to your education and success as our top priority.
Testimonials from PSC Grads:
After spending some time searching for the right training program, having undergone the PSC teacher training made me feel confident that I made the right choice. I also realized how little about pilates was I ever taught at other places. Kelli, Andromeda, as well as their instructors, are all about using the right cues, while paying attention to a constant proper postural alignment so that the Client benefits the most. They are the most logical, knowledgeable, and progressive about how to work with different health conditions out there.
They are making sure you enjoy the program and/or the workout and are always diplomatic, encouraging, welcoming, and professional. Sad, but true, I haven’t come across the same atmosphere as there is at PSC anywhere else. Their philosophy makes all the sense in the world and it will be impossible to forget all the wonderful information they taught me. ~ Monika Chavatikova 2011
I recently took the teacher training course at PSC Encino and I highly recommend it. PSC was recommended to me by a handful of the best/ most knowledgeable Pilates trainers I know. After taking the course, I agree that PSC is the best. Their teachers are up to date and knowledgeable with the most recent information and discoveries of the body and how to work all of the different body types efficiently. The teachers incorporate unique techniques that help you learn, understand, and remember alot of information. I have never experienced such an effective training course!
I especially liked how we learned alot more anatomy than I knew previously from my NASM certification. I always wanted to know more about the spine, the rotator cuff, and the deep core muscles in the back. I now understand how it all works, how injuries occur, how to prevent them, and I know what questions to ask when a client has an injury.
The teachers at PSC are passionate about teaching, very positive, and extremely encouraging. I was constantly challenged throughout the program and felt like a sponge with all the interesting information they continued to provide.
I am very fortunate to have had this educational experience!
I look forward to learning more as I will continue to educate myself at PSC via taking classes and workshops. ~ Kelly Newkirk 2011
